Highway Engineer

Description

The primary duties of a highway engineer are roadway design development of highway project plans in accordance with latest design policies and procedures. The highway engineer will work closely with project managers to produce engineering designs and plans for review and approval by the client. Responsibilities include the design of construction plans, right-of-way plans, cross sections, traffic control plans, pavement marking and signing plans, erosion and sedimentation plans, storm water management plans and project cost estimates. In addition, written and oral presentations to clients and the public regarding the various aspects of the project design and development may be required.


Requirements The following are the basic requirements for this position:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • AutoCAD 2004 or more recent version
  • Strong communication skills

  • Skills that are helpful for this position, but are not required include knowledge of InRoads, Microstation, AutoTab, and Microsoft Office Software. Previous experience with PennDOT, PA Turnpike, WVDOT or other municipal and state agencies and familiarity with AASHTO and PennDOT Design Manuals is preferred.
